Work to upgrade lift at Huddersfield station starts this week

Network Rail will be upgrading a lift at Huddersfield station from today (14 March) to make it more reliable for passengers.

Engineers will be replacing parts of the lift so that it can continue to run smoothly and help passengers move around the station, which is managed by TransPennine Express.

This essential work means the passenger lift on Platform 1 will be out of action from Monday 14 March until Monday 4 April and there will be no step-free access to Platforms 4-8.

Passengers who are arriving at or departing from these platforms and need to use the lift should pre-book assistance through National Rail or their train operator so that alternative transport, such as a taxi, can be arranged.

Richard Owens, Infrastructure Director for Network Rail’s North & East route, said: “It’s important that we keep our lifts in good working order, so that they can continue to provide a reliable, accessible route for those who rely on step-free access when travelling by train.

“Having a lift out of action is never ideal and I’m sorry to everybody impacted by this work. I’d advise passengers to plan ahead and to pre-book assistance where needed so that they can reach their destinations safely and on time.”

Angie Hunte, TransPennine Express Interim Station Manager for Huddersfield, said: “We want to thank customers using Huddersfield Station for their patience while this important maintenance work takes place and are working closely alongside Network Rail to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Between 14 March and 4 April, we are asking customers requiring step-free access to plan ahead, and allow extra time when making their journeys.”

TransPennine Express customers who need to use the lift should contact their Passenger Assistance team before their journey on 0800 107 2149, via WhatsApp texting ‘Assisted Travel’ to 07812 223 336 or online at tpexpress.co.uk/help/passenger-assist.
