The Duchess of Cornwall is backing the extension of the Rail to Refuge scheme, which offers free train travel for people fleeing domestic abuse.

An article in the Daily Express says Camilla has urged those at risk to make the break in a video message.

She also says she is delighted to hear that train companies are extending the Rail to Refuge scheme to provide free travel to a safe refuge for those fleeing domestic abuse.

The initiative was launched by Southeastern with all of Britain’s train operators forming a partnership with the charity Women’s Aid to join last April.

The Labour party has called for the government to make a commitment to “buy British” when sourcing steel for big infrastructure projects such as railways and nuclear power stations.

An article in The Guardian says projects such as HS2 and Hinkley Point C nuclear power station would be expected to buy more British steel under the policy, which is backed by the under-pressure industry.

The article also says that Labour also wants the government to set a target for UK steel content in big public works and give UK steel preferred status in contracts.


Work has begun on the £80 million transformation of Plymouth’s main railway station into a modern transport hub with shops and offices.

The article in the Plymouth Herald says construction has started on the main concourse of the train station as part of a huge package to completely transform a key entrance to the city.


Finally, and Europe’s best railway stations for passengers have been revealed, with two UK spots making the top 10 list – Birmingham New Street and London’s St.Pancras.

An article in The Mirror covers the European Railway Station Index for 2021, which ranked Europe’s 50 largest stations for their overall passenger experience, which looked at factors which included crowding on platforms, general accessibility, and the number of destinations that offered links to.

It was Leipzig Hauptbahnhof in Germany which took the top spot.
