The property group behind the Shard skyscraper in London is working on plans to redevelop another site in the capital.

An article in The Times says the Sellar Group is in talks with Network Rail about a £1.55 billion redevelopment of Liverpool Street, which is the third busiest train station in the UK.

The article says Network Rail is keen on a redesign because of “significant overcrowding problems” that it thinks will only get worse.

The project is still in the early stages of planning, but should it go ahead it would be Sellar’s third big redevelopment in London, which includes leading the redesign of Paddington station in recent years.

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson’s officially opened the new railway station at Soham as the first trains rolled into the new platform, five months ahead of the original timetable.

The Deputy Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire, Network Rail’s Chairman Sir Peter Hendy, former Mayor James Palmer, local residents, community representatives and businesses were present at a special ceremony to witness the moment that Soham station was formally opened to passenger services, 56 years after the last passenger train called at the town.

The opening of the station marks the completion of a long campaign to bring railway services back to Soham, supporting local investment and creating more sustainable transport choices to travel to regional and national destinations more easily.

An article on the Press and Journal says Scottish firm H2 Green, which recently announced similar plans for Shoreham Port, is behind the development, to be based at the former gas holder site of distribution firm SGN at the city’s rail depot.

The green hydrogen production, storage and distribution facility is expected to scale to eight tonnes of hydrogen per day and could service 800 heavy goods vehicles per day, cutting 30,000 tonnes of emissions annually.
