In a bid to avert the largest strike by railway workers in several decades, talks are to be held this week, after the scale of disruption to services by the planned industrial action became clear.
The article in City A.M. says members of the RMT union at Network Rail and 13 train operators will walk out on June 21, 23 and 25.
The RMT also announce another 24-hour strike on London Underground on June 21 in a separate row.
The disputes are over pay, jobs and pensions, with the union complaining that railway staff who worked through the pandemic are facing job cuts, a pay freeze and attacks on employment conditions.
The UK Government has scrapped plans for the high-speed rail link between Scotland and the north-west of England.
An article in Holyrood magazine says ministers will remove the Golborne Link – which would have connected HS2 to the West Coast mainline – from the High Speed Rail Bill.
But the Department for Transport said it would “explore alternatives” for delivering high speed rail to Scotland.
The project to rebuild Northwich train station has taken a step forward after plans were submitted to the council.
An article in the Northwich Guardian says a little more than 12 months ago, on May 18, 2021, part of the roof collapsed at the town’s station building, which dates back to the 1800s.
Network Rail is seeking planning approval from Cheshire West and Chester Council to undertake the work to restore the building off Manchester Road.
Martijn Gilbert has been appointed as the new managing director for Lumo and Hull Trains, a new role in which he will lead both of FirstGroup’s open access businesses.
He will join First Rail on September 12th, this year.
He said: “I am confident that, working closely with our partners, we can realise the ambitious plans for the future and deliver great service for our customers.”
