Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been named transport secretary by new prime minister Liz Truss.
An article on Travel Weekly says the international trade secretary replaces Grant Shapps, who was transport secretary during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and had supported Truss’ rival Rishi Sunak in the Conservative party leadership race.
Tweeting, Anne-Marie says she is thrilled to be appointed transport secretary and is looking forward to getting to work on the many challenges and opportunities transport brings.
Train services between Dundee and Aberdeen are facing disruption after the northbound line was shut due to flooding.
An article on the Press and Journal says Network Rail says heavy rain has led to water running from a field onto the tracks at Carmont, near Stonehaven.
The line has been closed for services running from Montrose towards Aberdeen until the water level recedes.
ScotRail says services from Aberdeen heading south are still able to run but has put arrangements in place for tickets to be used on buses.
Staff sickness has forced the shutdown of the Isle of Wight’s entire rail network.
An article on the BBC website says South Western Railway said it was unable to cover a signaller’s shift on Wednesday and would have to close the Island Line between Ryde and Shanklin.
A rail replacement bus service will run at the seven stations between the two destinations from 9am and to 7pm.
Finally, the First Minister of Scotland, Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP, has officially opened Highland Spring Group’s new rail freight facility in Blackford, Perthshire.
The development is a major milestone for the UK’s producer of natural source waters, enabling them to transport goods sustainably and supporting their ambition to reach net zero by 2040.
The new facility, adjacent to Highland Spring Group’s main bottling plant in Blackford, has been planned in partnership with Transport Scotland, Network Rail, and the Scottish Government.
