Alstom puts into service four stations on Cairo Metro Line

Four new stations along the Cairo Metro Line 3 (Phase 3), reaching from Attaba to Kit Kat, have been successfully supplied, tested and signalling, centralised control and driving modes commissioned by Alstom.

The new infrastructure will enable over 30,000 commuters to travel per hour, in both directions.

In November 2015, Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) awarded Alstom a contract to provide system and subsystem design, manufacturing, installation, testing/commissioning, training, maintenance for signalling, driving modes, centralised control and telecommunication systems for the third phase of the Cairo Metro Line 3. On the same date, NAT awarded Alstom, as a member of the G3 Power Supply Consortium, a contract for the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, training, maintenance of power traction system and depot equipment.

Ramy Salah, managing director of Alstom Egypt said: “Alstom is proud to have provided its Urbalis signalling solution for line 3 of the Cairo Metro, phase 3A. We are committed to meeting our customer’s expectations and pursuing our long-term partnership with the National Authority for Tunnels. We strive to provide to the country state-of-the-art signalling solutions”

The project utilised Urbalis, an advanced signalling system designed to helps operators ease commuter congestion. Constantly upgraded, the solution helps maximising performance and capacity while providing standard supervision and control supporting operational needs. Designed for heavy ridership metros, the system offers a considerable range of functions that improve headway and average speed performance.
