Crossrail provide new video update as Elizabeth Line opening nears

Mark Wilde, the CEO of Crossrail and Howard Smith, COO of the Elizabeth Line, have given a new video update on the project.

In the video, Mark discusses the evacuation exercises that have been held and important safety assurance work that needs to be carried out. He added Bond Street will not be open as a station when the Elizabeth Line goes into public use, but it will be used in the meantime as an evacuation route. He said the team was making “great progress” on Bond Street, and confirmed the station will be most likely to open in autumn.

Howard added that the last phase of trial operations meant running five-minute frequency services as this stage of the project starts to reach the end. Overall, between 300 and 2,000 people have taken part in the trial operations at any one time. Soon, trains will be running to timetable to ensure the service is “truly match fit” for when it opens, he added.

Howard said there will be more work, including bringing trains in from east and west and increasing the frequency on the central part of the railway.
