DB ESG wins new contract from Transport for Wales

DB ESG has signed a deal with Transport for Wales to supply a selective door operation (SDO) system to work on trains consisting of Mk 4s, driving van trailers and Class 67 locomotives.

TfW, DB ESG says, has asked for these systems to be fitted to allow the trains to control which doors can open – allowing the vehicles to stop at platforms that are shorter than them.

DB is already modifying the fleet to allow the Mk 4 cars to work with Class 67 locos and driving van trailers. The modifications should be finished by Easter, and SDO installations will be fitted in time for the December 2022 timetable change.

Nick Goodhand, managing director, DB ESG, said: “We are already undertaking modification work on these Mk 4 units for Transport for Wales. We are therefore familiar with this coaching stock and have developed great working relationships with the Transport for Wales team. We look forward to continuing our partnership.”
