Drainage expert Jet Aire Services moves into North East’s historic railway heartland

A drainage specialist with an impressive track record in the rail sector has relocated to the heartland of British railways. Jet Aire Services has moved into larger premises after a period of growth over the last 12 months.

The company, which has been operating for more than 30 years, provides drainage solutions to commercial, industrial and domestic clients primarily across the north of England and boasts a number of clients from the rail sector in its order book.

Last summer the business took over Tyneside-based KwikFlow to expand its reach across the North East, then towards the end of the year the company was acquired by environmental specialists Adler & Allan with the aim of increasing work in additional sectors.

Now, as a result of that growth, the business has moved one of its sites to Darlington, the North East town famous for being the first to use steam locomotives back in 1825 and which is now a key part of the East Coast mainline.

Ian Willis, Marketing Manager at Jet Aire Services, said: “As we look to make further inroads into the rail sector, it is particularly poignant that our new office is right in the middle of an area steeped in such a rich railway history.

“It has been a steady period of growth for the business in recent years, and 2021 was busy after we acquired KwikFlow before being taken over ourselves by Adler & Allan.

“On top of those acquisitions we have also invested more than £1m to increase our vehicle fleet, and the headcount across the business – both on the engineering side as well as support staff – has risen accordingly.

“Jet Aire Services effectively outgrew the previous site in Middlesbrough, and as a business we are delighted to be able to move into the new premises in Darlington which not only comfortably house our operations but provide us with the capacity for further growth.

“From a logistical point of view, the new yard is within easy reach of the A66, A19 and A1, three key routes which connect a huge proportion of the areas in which we operate.”

Jet Aire Services prides itself on its no-dig technology, and in addition to an upgrade of its fleet the company has also invested in Enz Chain Flail which works on a recycler unit for lines which are 200mm-400mm.

This piece of equipment is particularly useful when Jet Aire’s PTS-trained crews are tracking some tougher encrustations and tree roots which creep into trackside sewers.

A total of 65 staff will be working from the Darlington base, and management have stressed that the move will not have any impact on services.
