The UK’s first 100mph battery-diesel hybrid train is entering passenger service to cut carbon emissions and boost air quality.
That’s according to an article on the ITV website that says it was developed by adding a powerful battery to a 20-year-old diesel train to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 25 per cent.
Chiltern Railways is introducing the train on its 40-mile route between London Marylebone and Aylesbury today.
The number of people using the Tube has increased significantly since early January, according to Transport for London (TfL) figures.
An article on the BBC website says Tube passenger levels have risen by about 25 per cent and are now at about 60 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
The easing of working from home restrictions on 19 January is likely to have influenced the recovery.
Scottish transport minister, Jenny Gilruth has confirmed that ScotRail services will transition to public ownership on 1 April.
The date had been mentioned previously, but with April close on the horizon, Transport Scotland described the minister’s statement to Parliament as “confirmation” of when the change will take place.
Gilruth has also asked elected members and rail unions to take part in a “national conversation” on the future of rail services.
Work is now well underway on the longest railway bridge, as HS2 starts production of 1,000 enormous concrete segments that will form the deck of the Colne Valley Viaduct.
The viaduct will stretch for 2.1 miles, crossing a series of lakes and waterways just outside of London.
The deck segments – which weigh up to 140 tonnes – are being created on site at a temporary factory built for the project.
The 100m long building, visible from the M25, has an internal volume of 105,000 cubic metres – making it larger than the Royal Albert Hall.
