ScotRail has warned of widespread disruption as staff stage a 24-hour strike.

An article on the BBC website says the industrial action follows the RMT union’s rejection of the latest pay offer made to non-driving rail workers.

Dispatchers, station staff, conductors, ticket examiners and cleaners are among staff who will not be working.

The RMT has appealed to the public to “bear with them” as they fight for a “fair offer” to cover the rising cost of living.

Sticking with the strikes and Mick Lynch, secretary general of transport union RMT, said railway workers and their union representatives will continue to fight over better working conditions for “as long as it takes”.

The article in City A.M. comes after more than 40,000 RMT members working at Network Rail and 15 other operators walked out on Saturday in a long-standing dispute over jobs, working conditions and salaries.

The strike – the third to take place in a week – left only a fifth of regular services working, with services running only until 6.30pm.

Work has officially commenced on the £100 million redevelopment of Darlington railway station.

An article on Insider Media Limited says a number of nearby buildings including the Exhaust A Fix garage are being demolished, with the programme expected to ramp up ahead of building work next year.

The buildings are being cleared to make way for an extension to the station, with the old and new sites linked by a bridge joining the historic train shed with the new facility.

The business case for the proposed rail link from Rawtenstall to Manchester has been submitted to the Department for Transport.

Rail consultants Systra who were appointed by Rossendale Council and Lancashire County Council to produce the report and explore a number of potential solutions, are confident the options suggested provide a strong economic case for the new rail link, which would deliver real benefits to residents across Rossendale, Ramsbottom, Bury and Heywood.

Rossendale is the only authority in Lancashire without a rail link and suffers from high levels of road congestion especially in terms of travelling into Greater Manchester.
