Metallic Structure Refurbishment Services

We have been carrying out our metallic structure refurbishments for over 15 years, these include a whole range of structures, some over railway, over highways and even water, not forgetting our heritage structures too.

Being a RISQS audited and verified supplier, we understand the challenges and constraints of working within the rail sector. Our directly employed ICATS and PTS trained teams have experience of working within possession hours, blockades, trackside, specialist height access, short notice response and Christmas closures.

In January 2021, our ICATS teams attended site at Flamborough Street and Hadleigh Street to carry out our industrial coatings services to the two rail structures. The structures were covered with a significant amount of graffiti, rust and general wear and tear. Before works could commence, both structures were scaffolded and encapsulated, due to the nature of the works. The teams cleaned the structure in order to remove grime and soluble salts. Once cleaned we then shot blasted the structure to Sa2.5, using our microstrip blast cleaning system, to remove all existing paint systems. Within the encapsulation we provided extraction units, heaters and dust collectors to help control our working environment. After the coatings had been removed we applied the specified 3-coat protective paint system. The work was carried out during a dedicated rail closure with a restricted deadline.

Our microstrip system is utilised to bring surfaces back to their original condition, removing years of decay, as well as being extremely environmental friendly. Read more about our microstrip system here.

In the Summer of 2020, whilst the country was making its way through the national lockdown, our directly employed ICATS and PTS trained teams made their way over the water to the Isle of Wight to carry out our metallic structure refurbishment services to Ryde Station footbridge. During 2020, our teams carried out a number of these type of projects, making the most of the network being quiet with travel restrictions in place. During a 52-hour closure to the track, our teams prepared the structure to St3 sound surface standard before applying a protective 3-coat paint system. This paint system will protect the structure from corrosion, dirt, grime and possible damage through general wear and tear, also transforming the structure’s aesthetics, bringing it to life and brightening up the station and trackside. Check out our project case study here.
