Urgent safety checks are being carried out on trains running on the Metropolitan line section of the Tube, Transport for London (TfL) has said.

An article on the BBC website says TfL is warning of severe disruption as engineers check over the entire fleet of trains – which also run on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines.

The trains were only introduced in 2010, but TfL said a fault had been identified on some of their wheels.

As a result, engineers are increasing the frequency of inspections.

It will split the Eastern region – which covers the Anglia, East Coast, East Midland and North & East routes – into a north and south area.

It suggests contractors will be encouraged to work together and align objectives, considering five strategic focus areas: a railway system approach, capabilities, productivity, collaborative behaviours, and sustainability.

The policy was introduced in November 2020 as part of the transport network’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a “temporary measure”, however still remains in place.
