Most train services in Scotland will end at 4pm this afternoon as the country braces itself ahead of being hit by the first of two storms.

The article features in several of the newspapers including the Evening Standard that says ScotRail announced on Tuesday its services would end early on Wednesday due to Storm Dudley, the forecast for which has led to the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning for the north of England and the central belt and south of Scotland.

Gusts could rise as high as 90 miles per hour in coastal areas, with the amber warning due to come into force at 4pm today and expire at midnight, when it will be downgraded to a yellow warning until 6am tomorrow.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today called on train ticket retailers to reflect the actual costs incurred when charging administration fees on train ticket refunds.

Although the current cap on admin fees is set at £10, ORR has found that on average the actual costs of processing refunds amount to less than £5.

In the first review of refund administration fees since they were introduced in 2006, ORR has today published a report focused specifically on the administration fees for refunds for tickets that have not been used.

Non-season ticket refunds are the most common transaction, accounting for 98 per cent of refunds.


Work has started on the first phase of a project to improve the frontage at York railway station.

An article on Insider Media Limited said the scheme aims to create an improved transport interchange, as well as revamping the public space around the station.

It aims to encourage more people to walk, cycle and use public transport to access the station, as well as creating a more welcoming and inclusive environment around the front of the railway station for the public.


New designs have been revealed for plans to mask an HS2 railway tunnel with greenery.

An article on the BBC website says those behind the high-speed railway said they were working on creating green spaces around the route through Burton Green, Warwickshire, following community feedback.

They said the landscaping works would help integrate the railway into the surrounding area.
