A one-minute silence will be held in railway stations across Britain on Wednesday in honour of the three people who died in the Stonehaven train crash.

The news features in the Herald that stations across Scotland, along with many in England and Wales, will fall silent at 9.43am on Wednesday to commemorate the week that has passed since the fatal derailment was reported.

Driver Brett McCullough, 45, conductor Donald Dinnie, 58, and passenger Christopher Stuchbury, 62, were killed when the Aberdeen to Glasgow train crashed into a landslide across the tracks following torrential rain.


HS2 has signed a ground-breaking agreement with leading railway research centres in UK universities that will enable it to access world-leading research capabilities, knowledge and facilities.

The agreement with the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network will enable HS2 Ltd to be at the forefront of innovation in the rail sector, and help accelerate new technologies and products from research into market applications globally.

Avanti West Coast has announced this morning that it will be restoring services to several destinations from Monday 7th September as part of changes to its timetable.

Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Blackpool and Edinburgh will see the return of direct Avanti West Coast services to and from London for the first time since lockdown measures were enforced.

Finally, and HS2 Ltd has launched the second part of recruitment to its Innovation Accelerator programme, following the overwhelming response to its first call out to tech start-ups and SMEs earlier this year.

The winning five entrants will join the first cohort, chosen from 109 applications, from the first recruitment programme, who will work on the challenges of: productivity, environment; and the circular economy.

The portal closes to applications on the 18th of September, with the successful enterprises announced in the autumn.
