London commuters are facing another day of chaos as the second of this week’s 24-hour Tube strikes takes place today.

The news features in several of the newspapers including the Evening Standard that says members of the RMT union on Wednesday night decided to go ahead with the strike across the entire network in a dispute over jobs, pensions and conditions.

The article says almost all London Underground lines were completely suspended as of 7 this morning.


Ukrainian refugees trying to reach the UK are being offered free train tickets on Eurostar on all routes to London.

An article in inews says that those with a Ukrainian passport and a valid visa can request a ticket from Eurostar staff at the Amsterdam, Brussels, Lille or Paris stations.

The offer follows news that 200,000 Ukrainian citizens could now be eligible to enter the UK after the government relaxed visa rules on Tuesday.


Work to improve track and drainage on a major route into Birmingham is complete.

Teams carried out alterations to the track and lineside drainage between 19 and 27 February as part of long-term improvements to the network, including preparations for HS2.

The track upgrades included a railway first, with six specialist railway ‘track removal machines’ being connected to move a half kilometre section of track in one go.

The Northumberland Line project has hit another milestone, with every new railway station for the scheme now having won approval from planners.

An article on the Chronicle Live says county councillors gave their backing on Tuesday evening for the last of six calling points that will be constructed under the massive transport investment, this one being at Newsham in Blyth.

Planning permission had already been granted for five other stations, with passenger services due to be restored to the railway line from December 2023, or early 2024.
