A major round of industrial action will disrupt National Rail services and the London Underground over the next month, as train drivers strike in a dispute over pay and conditions.

An article on City A.M. says members of the Aslef union are launching two rolling one-day Tube strikes and walk-outs at 16 major rail operators across April and May. Union members will also refuse to work overtime on certain dates, beginning on Thursday.

Train drivers at 16 rail companies will launch strikes on Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Monday 8 April, Aslef has said.

Two 24 hour strikes by Aslef tube drivers are planned on Monday 8 April and Saturday 4 May.


Passengers and local residents in Lostwithiel will soon be able to enjoy uninterrupted access over the railway for the first time in more than 50 years with Network Rail set to install a temporary footbridge at the station.

The old footbridge at Lostwithiel was removed in the late 1960s but a new, temporary bridge will be built this summer to provide benefits to the community as quickly as possible while the latest plans for a permanent bridge are developed.

A community group is campaigning to provide a rail link between tourist beauty spots in the Peak District.

An article on the BBC website says the battery-powered vehicle plan is proposed to run on a disused freight track from Buxton to popular walking and cycling trails in the area.

The Buxton Town Team wants an electric rail service to the Monsal Trail, before seeing if it is possible for the Tissington Trail.


A popular train driver received a guard of honour on the platform as he retired after more than 40 years on the job.

An article on the BBC website says Bob Darlington, who started work on the railways in 1983, drove his last Northern train from Manchester Victoria to Chester and back this week.

The 59-year-old – known as Bobby D – was welcomed back on the platform by family, friends and colleagues paying tribute to the “very special driver”.

Mr Darlington said he now plans to be “on a beach somewhere with sandals on”.
