Lumo team gets onboard Newcastle Pride march

A team of colleagues from Newcastle based train operator Lumo joined the Newcastle Pride march this weekend dressed as a walking Lumo train, and handed out recyclable paper flags to those lining the streets.

The 100 per cent electric rail operator sponsored the city’s Pride Rainbow Village, which welcomed market stalls and businesses in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lumo also had its own stall within the Rainbow Village, with competitions to win Lumo tickets and merchandise including sustainably made bamboo sunglasses, corn starch ponchos, plantable pens and drinks holder lanyards.

Lumo was joined by colleagues at Network Rail’s Archway LGBT+ group and local Drag Queen, Danni Delonco, who wore a special Lumo themed outfit, first created for the rail companies London Pride event where Danni represented Lumo at King’s Cross Station last month.

In June, the Newcastle based operator launched its own ‘Pride Partnerships Train’, wrapped in pride messaging and featuring logos of three LGBTQ+ companies it has formed local partnerships with.

Lumo’s year-long partnerships with Northern Pride, Curious Arts and the Pride Media Centre, home to the nationwide Pride Radio, include different activities to support LGBTQ+ communities.

Martijn Gilbert, managing director of Lumo, said: “We have had a fantastic time at Newcastle Pride, and being able to celebrate with the community is such a great way to mark our Pride partnerships and show our support.

“Everyone is welcome here at Lumo, both as customers and colleagues, and we place diversity and inclusivity at our heart. We hope our support of Pride events and partnerships helps to communicate that to an even wider audience.”
