Star Wars Imperial Forces join railway staff in toiletry collection drive at Glasgow Central

Glasgow Central will once again join with the Glasgow City Mission to host a toiletry collection drive this Friday, July 28 between 08:00 and 18:00.

Railway staff and volunteers from the City Mission will staff a collection point on the main concourse, joined by members of the Imperial Scottish Garrison, a costuming organisation that celebrates Star Wars.

They’ll be in their Star Wars ‘stormtrooper’ costumes, raising awareness of this good cause, despite being the ‘baddies’!

The team will be engaging with passengers and staff, encouraging them to contribute if they’re able to do so, with all toiletry donations going to homeless and other disadvantaged people.

A wide range of items are needed, with the following items most welcome:

  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorants (male and female)
  • Shaving foam
  • Razors
  • Shower gel

Donations have begun rolling in, with the station’s neighbour, Radisson Blu Hotel on Argyle Street generously donating £400 of toiletries to the drive already.

Drew Burns, Glasgow Central’s station manager, said: “The people of Glasgow are known for their generosity and community spirit, and we’re sure they’ll respond, helping those in need in their usual way. Scotland’s Railway is proud to be supporting this great cause.

“Every donation will be gratefully received and will be used to support some of the most vulnerable in our city. We’re grateful to the Imperial Scottish Garrison for once again volunteering their time to help raise awareness and engage with passengers and staff. We’re sure it’ll be a spectacle to see the Imperial Forces waiting for the 13:35 to Neilston.”
