Network Rail is advising drivers in Isham that Station Road bridge will be closed for two weeks, as vital improvement work is carried out.
From Monday 12 October, Network Rail engineers are carrying out work to repair the pavement, after cracks appeared due to the hot weather over the last few months. Improvements are also being made to the drainage on the bridge, to make sure water runs away from the railway.
A major project to upgrade Station Road bridge, as part of the £1.5billion Midland Main Line Upgrade, was completed in November 2019. The bridge was demolished and then built at a raised height to provide safe clearance for overhead line equipment.
This work will not impact on train services, but Station Road will be closed to drivers at the bridge to allow the improvements to take place safely:
- Station Road will be closed to motorists from 09:00 on Monday 12 October until 18:00 on Friday 23 October. A signposted diversion will be in place.
- Access over the bridge will be maintained for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.
Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail, said: “This work to improve the pavement and the drainage on Station Road bridge is vital so drivers, cyclists and pedestrians can continue using it for years to come.
“These improvements can only be carried out safely when the road is closed, and we would like to apologise to residents and businesses in Isham for any inconvenience.”
Once the road re-opens, teams will remain on site until December. Network Rail is working to keep disruption to a minimum for people who live near the railway.
