SLC Rail helps deliver Worcestershire’s first new station for over 100 years

Worcestershire County Council’s aspiration for a new transport centre became reality with the opening of Worcestershire Parkway.

This has been an ambition for the County for over 30 years, and now SLC Rail, specialists in making third party rail schemes happen, has supported Worcestershire County Council to deliver the station.

It is a key part of Worcestershire County Council’s commitment to improve rail connectivity, thus enabling easier travel into and out of the county, boosting the regional economy, supporting growing communities, and doing so in an environmentally sustainable way

Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure, Councillor Ken Pollock, said: “Worcestershire Parkway is a culmination of years of hard work. SLC Rail has supported the County Council to deliver the project, helping to make it possible and guiding us with their rail expertise.

“This is an excellent example of improving connectivity to benefit the community, while reducing congestion in Worcestershire through investment in new rail infrastructure.”

SLC brings together people from the world of rail strategy, projects, investment, engineering, operations and property to provide services that help scheme promoters develop plans, win support, secure investment and deliver.

Ian Walters, Managing Director of SLC Rail said: “We’re proud to have worked with Worcestershire County Council on this project, which is making a positive difference to the region’s connectivity and economic prosperity.

“This has been a complex project but the effort and skill that has gone into every part of the station clearly demonstrates what is possible with third party investment.”

Ian Baxter, Director of the North Cotswold Line Task Force, and SLC Rail’s Strategy Director said: “Worcestershire Parkway marks the beginning of a wider transport transformation for the North Cotswold Line between Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and London.

“SLC Rail is developing the Task Force’s case for more frequent, faster services on the line. As well as making use of today’s services, Parkway’s new capacity will support future service expansion.”
