Trenitalia-owned train operator c2c is celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend from 2-5 June with a special map to showcase the numerous royal-themed points of interest along its London to South Essex route.
Highlights include: Barking station, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1961 after the booking hall was rebuilt between 1959-61;The Royal Gunpowder Magazines, which were built in Purfleet in 1759 to store gunpowder for the army and navy; and Tilbury Fort, which was first built by Henry VIII to protect London against France and also played an important role in the Napoleonic and World War I. Now owned by English Heritage the fort is seen as one of the finest examples of a 17th Century bastion.

c2c has also published a guide to the many free festivities during the long weekend for people of all ages to take part in including Southend’s Music in the Park at Priory Park and Focal Point Gallery’s Creative Open Day, which is running a range of activities including a community street art project.
c2c customers are also encouraged to buy tickets in advance on their c2c Smartcard to make travelling to the festivities in London and Essex quicker and easier during the bank holiday weekend. Customers can buy online three or more days in advance and save 40% on Off-Peak Return tickets. At weekends, they can make an extra saving, as it’s the same price Off-Peak weekdays as it is at weekends. For example, a return between London Fenchurch Street and Southend is only £12.00 with this discount.
Children can also benefit from its ‘Kids for £2,’ which is available to buy during all school holidays and weekends. Up to four children aged 5-15 can travel for just £2 each whenever an adult buys an off-peak ticket online for travel across c2c’s route.
Child Smartcards can be ordered online and simply link to an adult’s c2c account. The c2c Train Travel app can also be used to add discounted child tickets straight onto a Smartcard for greater security and durability.
