Strikes result in no rail figures this week

The figures which show the degree to which the railways are recovering are have not been updated this week.

The numbers, which are a seven-day rolling average percentage comparison to passenger numbers in 2019, cannot include the most recent week because of strikes.

In the notes on the statistics, the Department for Transport said: “The National Rail journeys data for the most recent week has not been included in this week’s publication, as we are not confident that the provisional figures are accurate because of increased uncertainty due to last week’s industrial action.

“Journeys reported for the most recent week are adjusted to account for a data delay in LENNON, and the current methodology is not appropriate to use in the context of the industrial action, as we do not have enough data to carry out the adjustment process robustly.

“The data will be included in next week’s update once the data set is near finalised and we no longer need to adjust.”

LENNON (Latest Earnings Networked Nationally Over Night) is the ticketing and revenue system. There is often a delay in which the data is collected, which results in only provisional figures being released on normal weeks, which are usually updated by the time a fortnight has passed.
