The results of our Great British Railway HQ polls are in

Our polls, asking you which location should house the new headquarters for Great British Railways have now closed.

As reported, the government has said the competition is down to six finalists: Birmingham, Crewe, Derby, Doncaster, Newcastle and York.

The central headquarters will be the heart of the rail network and will provide strategic direction for the running of GBR, as well as bringing a number of highly skilled jobs to the area.

So we wanted to know from our readers which YOU thought should win.

Here are the results. We asked you on two platforms, so I have kept the results separate.

On Twitter, the results were:

  • Birmingham — 10.7%
  • Crewe – 23.4%
  • Derby – 15.9%
  • Doncaster – 12.3%
  • Newcastle – 9.2%
  • York – 28.5

…and on LinkedIn:

  • Birmingham – 14.5%
  • Crewe – 16.5%
  • Derby – 19%
  • Doncaster – 15%
  • Newcastle – 8.5%
  • York – 26.5%

In both polls, Newcastle came last, and the same city came out on top: York.

However, it is fair to say that the 852 voters still seem fairly divided — with LinkedIn runner-up Crewe faring less favourably on Twitter.

It seems that despite a winner in our poll, the real race will not easily be decided.

Don’t forget the official public vote, letting the government know which area you think is best suited — click here to take part.
