Tube strikes ahead this weekend

The Night Tube faces more disruption this weekend, with RMT members set to go on strike once again.

The action follows a dispute over staff hours between TfL and the RMT.

Transport for London (TfL) is warning customers that both the Victoria and Central lines could be disrupted from 19:00 onwards on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 December.

Further strike action will follow on Night Tube services on the two lines on Friday 17 December. Planned 24-hour strike action on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines will also impact shoppers and revellers from 04:30 on the last Saturday before Christmas – 18 December.

TfL has called the action “unnecessary”; the RMT has likewise said the action its members are currently set to take is “avoidable” because TfL, it says, had axed dedicated Night Tube staff. It calls the new rosters an imposition of “unacceptable” shifts.

Nick Dent, London Underground’s Director of Customer Operations, said this was “the last thing London needs at the moment” has it tries to recover from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, last week the RMT said in a statement it consiered the action from members to be “rock solid” and said the “public will understand” what it called “he management failure to respond positively to union proposals”.
